Arranging Home Massage for a Parent: A Family Guide

Often it is the adult children who arrange care for an older parent — and who worry about getting it right. Booking a gentle home massage can ease a parent's stiffness and discomfort, but a little preparation makes it safer and more comfortable for everyone. This guide is for the family doing the organising.

What to tell us beforehand

Share your parent's general health, any conditions like osteoporosis, heart or circulation problems or diabetes, and any medication, especially blood thinners. Mention recent falls, new swelling, confusion or surgery. This lets us screen properly and decide whether to adapt the session or ask for a doctor's guidance first.

Making the visit comfortable

A warm, quiet room, a position your parent already finds comfortable, and a familiar face nearby all help. A shorter first session lets them get used to it. There is no need to move them to a treatment table if a favourite chair or their own bed works better — we adapt to them.

Key takeaways

  • Tell us health conditions, medication and recent changes
  • A warm room, comfortable position and familiar face help
  • A shorter first session eases them in
  • Stroke recovery or surgery needs clearance first

Frequently asked questions

My parent had a stroke. Can you still help?

With medical or physiotherapy clearance, gentle supportive massage may help comfort after a stroke. We screen carefully before booking.

What if my parent is unsure about it?

A shorter, gentle first session in a familiar setting with you present usually helps. We never push, and we stop any time something does not feel right.
